LaserMax Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can the LaserMax make my
weapon jam?
A: No, provided you purchase the correct model LaserMax for your
firearm, install it properly and lubricate your firearm per factory
specifications, your firearm will operate as it did prior to
installation. When you purchase your gun, it comes equipped with a
guide rod and spring. These are essential mechanical components
needed for your gun to function. Replacing these parts with the
LaserMax internal guide rod system does not in any way compromise
the durability or strength of your gun! In all cases, LaserMax’s
replacement guide rods and springs meet or exceed manufacturers
standards. Your gun will look and operate the same after you have
installed the LaserMax system, except now it will have a laser.
Q: Will I have to take my gun to a gunsmith to have the LaserMax
installed?
A: No, as long as you know how to fieldstrip your weapon to clean
it, you can install the LaserMax yourself in just a matter of
minutes.
Q: Can I install the LaserMax wrong?
A: Yes, although installation of the LaserMax system only requires a
few simple steps, it is important that the unit is placed inside
your firearm correctly. Installation requires that you know how to
fieldstrip your weapon. You will also need to carefully follow the
installation instructions in the User’s Manual that comes with your
unit. If you have a question about proper installation or do not
know how to fieldstrip your weapon, a LaserMax Support Technician
will be happy to talk you through the process live over the phone.
Q: Will putting a LaserMax in my gun void my firearms factory
warranty?
A: No, the LaserMax system does not permanently alter your firearm
and will not degrade the function or void the manufacturer’s
warranty.
Q: Do I have to clean my LaserMax?
A: After repeated shooting, the lens or window of your LaserMax unit
may become clouded and require a quick wipe with a soft cloth (Clear
your weapon first, of course!). For a more thorough cleaning, a
q-tip and isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol is all that’s needed. Do not
apply any oil or lubrication to your LaserMax guide rod.
Q: What other kind of maintenance will my LaserMax require?
A: Aside from changing the batteries, most users will never have the
need to perform any other maintenance to their LaserMax units. High
volume shooters should follow the same recoil spring replacement
guidelines set out by the manufacturer of their firearms.
Q: If I remove the batteries from my LaserMax internal sight,
will my gun still operate?
A: Yes, the LaserMax unit will perform the same function as the
factory guide rod and spring, with or without batteries. Just be
sure to put the battery cap back on, even when the batteries are
out.
Q: I am a left-handed shooter. How will I activate the LaserMax
internal sight?
A: LaserMax switches are ambidextrous! Both left and right-handed
shooters can activate the laser by pressing the switch in with their
index finger from either side.
Q: Will I have to replace my regular holster after I install the
LaserMax?
A: No, unlike other lasers, which change the exterior dimensions of
your gun, the LaserMax laser system does not require the purchase of
a special holster.
Q: Can the LaserMax laser sight be seen in the daylight?
A: Standing calm and still, looking at a paper target, sure. But
that’s not tactical. You want to know where the beam is without
looking. The LaserMax is self-defense equipment and is useful for
that purpose indoors and at night. No laser of this class is
effective for stress fire situations in broad daylight beyond a very
limited range. Outdoors from dusk to dawn or indoors anytime, the
pulsating LaserMax beam can be clearly seen far beyond your shooting
range.
Q: What is the advantage of having my take-down lever become an
activation switch?
A: Law enforcement and other firearms experts agree that the
shooter’s finger should remain on the side of the frame at the
take-down lever (or slide lock) while aiming. Pressing in on the
convenient activation button is second nature and is completely
consistent with firearms safety training. In addition, all LaserMax
switches will operate the same as their factory counterparts and can
remain in the frame of the gun regardless of whether or not the rest
of the LaserMax system is in place. Many users report that they
prefer the shape of LaserMax switches because they allow for easier
take-down.
